Betty Jane Williams

She was born August 11, 1922, in Jennings County, Indiana. She was the daughter of George and Lucille (Helt) Hughes. She married Garrett E. “Sonny” Williams December 20, 1946. He preceded her in death on October 4, 2006.She is survived by a sister, Ruthanna Kaler of Columbus, Indiana; nieces and nephews, Cheryl (Bus) Flater of Franklin, Indiana, Daria (Mike) Cook of Edinburgh, Indiana, Dwane (Cindy) Williams of Edinburgh, Indiana, Barry Huffman of Knoxville, Tennessee, Eric (Eileen) Williams of Edinburgh, Indiana, Janice (Larry) Brown of Greenwood, Indiana, Jim (Jo) Kaler of Clifford, Indiana, Lois (Dave) Waddell of Wilmington, Delaware, and Todd (Deborah) Burbrink of Columbus, Indiana; and several great-nieces and -nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a sister, Ruby Burbrink; and a nephew, Gerry Warder.She was a 1940 graduate of Scipio High School. She was a member of St. George Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for a number of years and was treasurer of the woman’s ELCA. She was a founding member of the Buzzing Dozen Home Economics Club. She was the last employee working at Union Starch in Edinburgh, as secretary, retiring in 1969 when the company moved to Illinois. After retirement she helped on the family farm.She enjoyed flower gardening and eating chocolate. She never forgot to send out birthday, anniversary, and holiday cards. She was a very kind, loving, and generous lady.A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, by Reverend Jerry Castleman at St. George Lutheran Church in Shelby County. Calling will be on Tuesday from 4 until 8 p.m. at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh and from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.Memorial contributions may be made to St. George Lutheran Church or Americare Hospice in Franklin. (The Republic)

Ilene Eaton

C., formerly of Clarksburg, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, at her home.The daughter of William E. and Leta M. (Henry) Empfield, she was born Oct. 8, 1928, in New Kensington.Mrs. Eaton was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Indiana, and was attending St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Hickory, N.C.She graduated from Indiana High School in 1946 and graduated from Indiana Hospital School of Nursing in 1949.She worked at Indiana Hospital as a supervisor of the operating room from 1949 to 1958 and finished her career at The Kiski School, Saltsburg, as the school nurse. She was a registered nurse for 60 years but was a caregiver her entire life.Surviving are two sons, Donald I. Eaton, of Greensboro, N.C., and Fred J. (Connie) Eaton, of Clarksburg; a daughter, Mary Beth (Stewart) Ruehl, of Hickory, N.C.; six grandchildren, Aaron Eaton, Marissa Eaton, Benjamin Eaton, Tarah Eaton, Katie Eaton and Jacob Eaton; three great-granddaughters, Avery Eaton, Teagen Eaton and Evelyn Eaton; a brother, Robert (Jane) Empfield, of Penn Run; a sister, Sandra Lee Kennedy, of Mulla, Ore.: and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted Z. Eaton, on March 18, 2009; and four brothers, Dale, Lyle, John and Clem Empfield.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville. Additional visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ardyth Hill officiating. Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Lewisville. (Indiana Gazette)
